    Overview

The Irrimec MASTER MDT8/2 MP is a diesel motor-pump integrated hard hose irrigator designed for operations where conventional pressurised infrastructure is unavailable or impractical. Manufactured by Irrimec in Italy, this fully self-contained unit carries its own diesel engine and pump assembly mounted on a single chassis, enabling it to be towed directly to an open water source—channel, river, dam or bore—and operated independently without reliance on existing mains supply or on-site pumping stations.

The MDT8/2 MP configuration features a turbine drive system powered by the onboard engine-driven pump, with the pressurised flow from the integrated pump unit driving the turbine that rewinds the hose reel irrigator through a reduction gearbox and by-pass valve speed control. Available hose configurations span diameters from 110 mm to 150 mm and lengths from 400 m to 650 m, offering operational flexibility across a wide range of field sizes and irrigation demands while maintaining complete portability between paddocks and water sources.

    Key Features & Benefits

    • Integrated diesel engine and pump: Eliminates dependence on existing mains pressure or on-site bore pumps, allowing the machine to draw and pressurise water independently from any open source.
    • Direct open-source water draw: Operates directly from channels, rivers, dams or bores, making it ideal for remote sites and paddocks without fixed infrastructure.
    • Turbine-driven hose rewind powered by onboard pump: The pressurised output from the integrated pump drives the turbine and gearbox, ensuring reliable, torque-rich hose retrieval with proven turbine technology.
    • Single-chassis towable design: Engine, pump, turbine, gearbox and hose reel are mounted on one mobile platform, simplifying transport between fields and water sources without additional equipment.
    • By-pass valve speed control: Fine-tunes retrieval speed by adjusting flow through the turbine, matching travel rate precisely to soil type, crop requirement and irrigation depth.
    • Wide hose configuration range: Accommodates diameters from 110 mm to 150 mm and lengths up to 650 m, supporting large-scale broadacre irrigation from a self-contained unit.
    • High flow rate capacity: Engine and pump specifications are matched to deliver the flow and pressure required for efficient large-bore hose operation and raingun performance.
    • Contract and multi-paddock flexibility: Fully self-sufficient design suits contractors and growers moving between properties or blocks without established irrigation systems.

Integrated Pump & Turbine Drive Operation

The MASTER MDT8/2 MP is equipped with a diesel engine that drives a high-capacity centrifugal pump mounted directly on the chassis. This pump draws water from an open source via a suction hose or inlet line and pressurises it at the machine's inlet manifold. The pressurised flow is then directed through the turbine, which is flanged to a reduction gearbox that turns the hose reel drum. A by-pass valve mounted in the circuit diverts a portion of the flow around the turbine, enabling the operator to fine-tune retrieval speed without altering engine or pump output. The rewind mechanism itself operates identically to a standard turbine drive irrigator—torque is generated by flow through the turbine and multiplied by gearbox reduction—but the distinguishing feature is that all necessary pressure is supplied by the onboard pump rather than an external source.

This self-contained configuration offers substantial operational advantages. Growers and contractors are no longer constrained by the location or capacity of existing mains infrastructure or on-site bore pumps; the machine can be towed directly beside any accessible channel, river, dam or bore and commence irrigation immediately. Single-chassis mobility simplifies transport between paddocks and properties, while the proven reliability of turbine-driven hose retrieval—once the integrated pump is supplying adequate flow—ensures consistent performance across varying field conditions. The system is particularly well suited to remote broadacre sites, contract operations and properties where fixed irrigation infrastructure is either absent or insufficient for large-scale hose reel demands.

    Ideal Applications

    • Paddocks adjacent to channels, rivers or dams: The integrated pump draws directly from open water, eliminating the need for mains connection or separate pumping stations.
    • Remote broadacre irrigation without fixed infrastructure: Fully self-contained design enables large-scale irrigation in locations where establishing permanent pressure systems is uneconomical.
    • Contract irrigation services: Single-chassis towable unit allows contractors to move efficiently between client properties and water sources without auxiliary equipment.
    • Properties drawing from bores with insufficient inlet pressure: The onboard pump boosts flow and pressure to levels required for efficient turbine operation and raingun throw, regardless of bore yield characteristics.
    • Large-scale forage, pasture and row crop irrigation: High hose capacity and flow rate suit demanding broadacre applications where open water is available but pressurised supply is not.
    • Multi-paddock rotational grazing systems: Mobility and independence from fixed infrastructure enable irrigation to follow livestock movements and pasture rotation schedules across extensive holdings.
